Mobile service provider Orascom Telecom Algeria has announced that Nokia Siemens Networks will be the sole provider of its Home Location Register solution.

Nokia Siemens will modernize the installed base of 17 million subscribers, as well as provide additional capacity of three million.

The data management solution from Nokia Siemens will enable Orascom to develop a single database for subscriber information, which is currently fragmented, giving the operator genuine customer insight.

The new capacity will go live by 2009, while the migration of the current installed base is foreseen for the end of the year.

Orascom has been searching for a partner to help further upgrade and modernize its core equipment, according to Orascom CEO Tamer El Mahdy.

"Using the Apertio platform, the database solution puts us in control of our valuable assets -- customer data," El Mahdy said.

Orascom Telecom Algeria is a subsidiary of Orascom Telecom International, which operates GSM  networks in six countries in Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
